Firman Pollen Insert
Placing the Inserts on the Beehive:1.
Use one to one and a half insert per acre.
2. If you have more than one hive per
acre, mark the most active hives.
When bee flight is occurring place the insert on top of the most
active hives. These "marked" hives will be the hives
that are used to apply pollen.
3. Early in the morning or in the
evening, when no bee flight is occurring,
take the insert off the top of the hive and place the insert at the
hive entrance.
4. When placing the insert on the entrance make sure that the
opening is sloping down into the hive and the insert is tight
against the opening. Our logo and 800 phone
number must be facing away from the hive.
Application of Pollen:
1. Pollen should be applied on multiple days, the more days
the better the results. Target the early bloom, it is the
stronger flower and will set the healthier fruit or nut.
2.
Bee flight
MUST BE OCCURRING
during pollen application.
The stronger the bee flight the better. Generally bees begin
flying at temperatures above 54 degrees, with bee flight increasing at warmer
temperatures.
Day of Application:
1. Remove pollen from freezer and place in shipping box or cool
chest with NO cool packs to allow pollen to come up to
ambient temperature (between 55 and 65 degrees). Bees do not
like ice cold pollen!
2. If no bee flight is occurring through an insert DO
NOT put pollen in that insert!
3. Apply one slightly rounded
Teaspoon
(approximately 5 grams)
per insert per application, during bee flight. Make
sure to spread the tablespoon along the full length of the insert.
4. Continue applying pollen until one day's application is
complete. It may require more than one visit to each hive.
Timing of Application:
1. Begin the 1st application at 20 percent bloom (when 20 out of
100 blossoms have opened). The tree will appear quite white at
this time. Judge your bloom stage from inside your orchard. Do not begin application too early!
2. Continue applications as possible through out the
bloom stages. Finishing application at 70 percent bloom.
3. Application sequence will vary depending on weather
conditions and bloom progression.
Applications may be made on consecutive days or every other day,
depending on temperature. Continue the process until all
applications are complete. It is possible that poor conditions
(i.e. rain or cold temperature) may cause a delay of a couple days
or more in between applications.
